Continuing with my Mono Records scores -

Rolling Stones - Aftermath
Aftermath was the fourth studio release by the British "black hat" rock gods, and the first to feature all original material written by Keith and Mick, which kind of blew everyone's mind, considering up until then, the Stones were considered a covers band. Released in April of 1966 on Decca Records in England, all of the songs on the album were recorded at the RCA Studios in California (a first for the band) and done entirely in true stereo (meaning no mono recordings). In a way, this was the first album where Keith, Mick, and most of all Brian Jones could really express themselves. Although Brian was never given full composition credit, he contributed so many standout instruments to Aftermath: the sitar on "Mother's Little Helper," the marimbas on "Under My Thumb" (my favorite on the album).

Like so many British albums, the UK release and the US release (June of 1966) featured different songs because of the parameters of a pop album - apparently the UK standard had 13/14 songs, and the US had 11/12. Therefor, the US release was missing "Out of Time," "Mother's Little Helper," "Take It or Leave It," and "What To Do" and instead featured their hit single "Paint It Black," most likely to boost record sales. But the original is a classic, and well worth the purchase.

The end.
